Marian Elizabeth (Betty) Dunn

SANTA FE – Mrs. Marian Elizabeth (Betty) Dunn passed from this life Thursday, January 11, 2018, in Texas City.

Born to Marian and Malcolm Farmer on June 18, 1921 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she went to school and graduated from Central High School of Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1939. In Tulsa she weathered the big depression, the oil strike, lots of snow and ice, locust storms, dust storms and of course Pearl Harbor. There were a lot of stories from this era.

Betty worked for Western Union and Mr. Tom Hunt at the old Hunt Building in Tulsa before joining the United States Navy in 1943, which she loved. She was stationed at Quonset Point Navy Air Base in Rhode Island. She was discharged as a Seaman 1st Class. She eventually made her way to beautiful Galveston, Texas. She went to work at Santa Fe RR and then Todd Shipyard where she met and married James (Jimmy) Dunn. The Dunns and their five children and animals were all involved in 4-H and the county fairs. She was a member of Arcadia Christian Church and a volunteer at HIS Ministries.

She is proceeded in death by her son, Stuart Dunn; grandson, Douglas Kilpatrick; sister, Janet Berry.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Baker, Sue Tombrella and husband, Charlie, Jamie Butler, Janet Kilpatrick; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2018, at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Jeff Spielman officiating.

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.
