LEAGUE CITY – Mrs. Ada Cathelean Cumbaa passed away at the age of 93 on Thursday evening, December 11, 2025, in League City.

Born April 9, 1932, in Clarke County, Alabama, Mrs. Cumbaa was previously a resident of Santa Fe and Galveston. For 28 years, Ada dedicated her professional life as a burn technician at Shriners Children’s Hospital, where her skill and compassion brought comfort and healing to countless children and families. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Alta Loma, where her faith and sense of community were deeply rooted. Outside of work and church, she found joy in tending to her garden, sewing with care and creativity, and collecting cookbooks. An avid Ham radio operator, she was known on the airwaves by her call sign, KC5-GUS, forming connections near and far. These passions, along with her generous spirit, defined a life devoted to service, creativity, and love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ada (Sellers) Morgan; husband, Jack Wilmer Cumbaa; sisters, Elizabeth Delegal, Shirley Harvison, Alder Jean Warlick; brother, Alvin Morgan.

Survivors include her son, Jack Wendell Cumbaa and wife, Peggy of Theodore, Alabama; daughters, Sharon Berryman and husband, John of La Marque, Linda Heath of Alvin, Wanda Robinson and husband, Barry Schultz of Santa Fe, Sonya Womack and husband, Paul of Santa Fe; brothers, Ronald E. Morgan, Jerry Neal Morgan both of Alabama; sisters, Bernice Walton of Brazil, Indiana, Betty Joyce Gilpin of Wagarville, Alabama; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2025, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Jake Bigford officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Russell Cumbaa, Brandon Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Jack Brian Robinson and Nathan Womack. Honorary bearers will be Jacob Cumbaa, Steve Johnson, Willie Clark Johnson, Michael Robinson and Paul Womack.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.

Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Ada’s name to Shriners Children's Hospital, 815 Market Street, Galveston, Texas 77550-2725.
