Arthur Craig Bender

SANTA FE – Mr. Arthur Craig Bender passed away at the age of 63 on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in Santa Fe.

Born August 27, 1962, in Bay City, Mr. Bender was a resident of Santa Fe for most of his life, previously of Arizona. He built a respected career as a heavy repair mechanic, working with both United Rentals and John Deere. A faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Arthur found strength in faith and fellowship. He was also a past volunteer and lifetime member of the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo, where he contributed time and energy to support an event cherished by the community. Arthur especially enjoyed helping others—never hesitating to lend a hand to neighbors or anyone in need. In his free time, he was an avid Astros fan, cheering them on with enthusiasm and pride.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Dorothy Lee (Hoots) Bender, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Melondy Bender; sons, Robert Christopher “Chris” Bender of Santa Fe, Arthur Adam Curt Bender and wife, Jill of Oklahoma City; brother, Rob Bender and wife, Kelly of Texas City; sister, Rynetta Howton of Madisonville; grandson, Robert Jordan Bender of Stephenville; fur baby, Lucy; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Kevin Garber officiating. Interment will be at Madisonville Cemetery at 3:00.

Pallbearers will be Albert Bender, Albert Ramirez, Terry Sumner, Sr., Terry Sumner, Jr., James R. Simon, James Simon and Jeremy Richards. Honorary bearers will be Bobby Knape and Johnny Smith.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
