Catherine Marie (Johnston) Garcia

SANTA FE – Catherine Marie Garcia passed away at the age of 63 on February 5, 2026, in Texas City.

Catherine was born May 24, 1962, in Waco, TX. She spent 20 years dedicating her life to others as a nurse with HCA, where her caring heart and gentle spirit touched countless lives. Outside of her work, she found happiness in the simple pleasures of life like growing vegetables in her garden. She married the love of her life, Steve Garcia, in 1984 and although she was more of a silent partner in their ownership of the Driftwood Bar, she loved being there surrounded by friends, music and especially enjoyed the dance floor where she danced her heart out as much as possible.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Arthur and Mattie Bell (Laseter) Johnston.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Steve Garcia; son, Steven Garcia and wife, Ashley; daughter, Teryl Garcia; brothers, Sam Johnston and wife, Sherri, James Johnston and wife, Patty, Leslie Johnston and wife, Amanda; mother-in-law, Ofelia Garcia; sister-in-law, Linda Ann Munoz; fur babies, Harley and Dakota along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A direct cremation was conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.

A memorial service will be held at her favorite place, the Driftwood, and more information on that is to come.
