Cathy Sue (Downey) Alston

SANTA FE - Mrs. Cathy Sue Alston passed away from this life Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in Santa Fe.

Born August 23, 1964, in Warsaw, New York, Cathy had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1983. Cathy worked as a salesclerk at KB Toy Store for several years, bringing joy to all the young shoppers who walked through the door. Outside of work, Cathy was a woman of diverse interests and talents. Her passion for sports extended to playing softball, and she excelled in games of darts and pool, showcasing her competitive spirit and skill. She was an avid animal lover who was always rescuing some kind of fur friend. She had everything from horses to birds and everything in between. Cathy also had a love for the outdoors, enjoying moments by the water with a fishing rod in hand. Her culinary skills were renowned among family and friends, with a particular flair for preparing and savoring seafood dishes. Whether it was a day spent casting a line or cooking up a delicious meal, Cathy found joy in these simple yet meaningful moments.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Barbara (Quiggle) Downey, brothers, Robert B. Downey, Arnold B. Downey; sister, Deborah Muzzy.

Survivors include her loving husband of nearly 41 years, Max Alston; brother, Gary Downey; sister, Starr (Downey) Diliberto of Mt. Morris, New York; nephews, Timothy Diliberto (Audrey), Joseph Rawiely; several nieces, nephews and many more loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Joshua McDonald officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
