SANTA FE – Mr. Clarence T. “Sonny” Kurtz passed away at the age of 75 on October 27, 2025, in Webster.
Born January 4, 1950, in Belton, Texas, he was a dedicated locomotive engineer with the Santa Fe Railroad for 40 years, where his skill and commitment to safety earned the respect of his colleagues and community. A proud member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Local 776, he was also active in Operation Lifesaver, promoting railroad safety education. His faith was central to his life as a member of Arcadia Christian Church. Outside of work, he found joy in the outdoors, especially in hunting and fishing with his grandchildren and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Doris Helfenstein; brother, William Bridges.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Donna (Lively) Kurtz; daughters, Kimberly Kitchen and husband, Charles of Dickinson, Carole Kurtz of Santa Fe; brother, Michael Helfenstein and wife, Linda of Webster; grandchildren, Aaron Kitchen and partner, Amber, Anthony Kitchen and wife, Ayden, Cassidy Hallows, Mason Hallows; great-grandchild, Adalynn Kitchen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Arcadia Christian Church, with Mr. Marty Adams and Pastor Les Boldt officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Cassidy Hallows, Mason Hallows, Michael Helfenstein, Jason Hughes, Aaron Kitchen, Anthony Kitchen, Curtis Lively and Joey Lively.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2025, at Arcadia Christian Church, 14201 Beriton Street, Santa Fe, Texas 77517. Halloween attire encouraged.
