SANTA FE – Mrs. Cynthia Lee Smoot passed from this life Sunday, January 9, 2022, in League City.

Born June 3, 1961 in Pasadena, Mrs. Smoot had been a resident of Santa Fe since 2003, previously of Houston. She had worked as a meat wrapper for 18 years at Kroger’s, HEB and Randall’s. Cynthia enjoyed music, singing, fishing, shopping, especially for antiques, eating out, going to the movies and spending time with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Marguerite Edmonia (Loper) New; first husband, James Edward Smoot.

Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Celedonio Ortiz, Jr.; father, Jimmy New; daughter, Jamie New; brother, Jimmy Carl New, Sr. and wife, Corena; sisters, Christie New, Cheryl Freed and husband, Clifford; nieces and nephews, Marguerite Fitzpatrick, Haden Carter Fitzpatrick, Carter Levi Fitzpatrick, Maverick Fitzpatrick, Natasha Marie Freed Brown, Elizabeth Pauline Freed, Victoria Olethia Freed, Eric Carl Christianson, Arianna Nicole Freed, Arron Moses Freed, Luis Angel Olvera, Jr., Amanda New, Jeremy New, Jimmy Carl New, Jr., Kaden New, Joshua New; grandchildren, Daniel Boyd and Dylan Boyd.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2022, at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501, with Miss Christie New officiating.
