David Muckelroy Burrows, Jr.
SANTA FE – David Muckelroy Burrows, Jr., was born March 9, 1939 and left this life on February 21, 2018.
He was a loving son, husband, brother, Dad and PawPaw. He was born in Lockhart, Texas and moved to Alta Loma in 1946 from Galveston. He graduated 3rd in the class in 1957 from Santa Fe High School. After high school he worked for Jones TV where he met the love of his life, Theresa Franzen, when she brought in her record player to be repaired. It never got repaired. He then went to work for Steelco making Sportsman Trailers. He continued to work for Steelco and the Mitchell family for 43 years until he retired in 2008. He was a volunteer firefighter with Alta Loma Fire Department for 25 years and a lifetime member of Santa Fe Fire and Rescue. He proudly had the honor of being the first person from Alta Loma to attend A & M Fire Training School. He was also a proud Eagle Scout. As a convert, David was strong in his Catholic faith as a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Men’s Club, and the Knights of Columbus #10393. Through the years he loved camping with his family in Wimberley, being a PawPaw, working in his yard taking care of his bluebonnets, growing vegetables - especially tomatoes- in his garden, and although he wouldn’t admit it, going to boat shows to see the friends he made while making boat trailers. David was known to many as the man with one hand being born with no fingers on his left hand. Having no fingers never stopped him from doing anything. He instilled that determination in his children, grandchildren, and all those who worked for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Sr. and Bea and his brother Don Burrows.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa, and his children, Debbie and Daniel Wagner of Unionville, Missouri and DeeDee and Eddie Johnson and his other daughter, Dana Mitchell Goynes; brother, Randy Burrows, all of Santa Fe; sister in law, Niki Burrows of Anchorage, Alaska, and brother Dick Burrows. He was a loving PawPaw to Nicole, Matthew and Jenifer Wagner and Mark Johnson.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 9:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Reverend John Kappe, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Alta Loma Cemetery under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jack Mitchell, Jr., Frank Corsaro, Frank Marabella, Barry Cook, Randy Burrows and Charles Martorell. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicole, Matthew, and Jenifer Wagner, Mark Johnson, Eddie Johnson, Daniel Wagner and Charles Cole.
Visitation will 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501.
