Deloris "Dee" Butler Obituary

Deloris “Dee” Jean Pierce Butler, a beloved wife, dedicated mother, and cherished “Nana” peacefully left us on the morning of September 27, 2024, at the age of 74.  Deloris nurtured her family with boundless love and support, and her absence will be profoundly missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.

Deloris was born on December 15, 1949, in Galveston, Texas. She grew up in Santa Fe, Texas where she was a proud graduate of Santa Fe High School and a spirited cheerleader. This is where she met the love of her life, Dewey Lee Butler.  The two shared a beautiful partnership of 50 years that inspired all who knew them. Deloris embodied grace and warmth, and her infectious enthusiasm left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

Deloris was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Lee Butler; her brother, Larry Eugene Pierce; her mother and father, Clarence Eugene Pierce, and Cora Louise Pierce; and her stepmother, Sharon Eberly-Pierce.

Deloris is survived by her two children, Jason Butler and wife, Nancy; Misha Hockenbury and husband, Jerry; brother, Gary Pierce and wife, Mary Ann; sister-in-law, Debbie Pierce; and five grandchildren, Aubri Hockenbury; Tyler Hockenbury and wife, Samantha; Bree, Brenlee, and Brooklynn Butler and one very special great-grandchild, Kori Lee Cridland. She also leaves behind 11 loved nieces and nephews.

Throughout her life, Deloris and her beloved husband, Dewey, embraced adventure, traveling, and living in several places across the U.S. together.  They truly lived life to the fullest, creating lasting memories and building a rich tapestry of experiences that they cherished deeply.  Although sometimes distance separated her from her beloved grandchildren, Deloris made it a priority to keep those connections strong.  She would fly them out for vacations, ensuring they shared special moments together as they grew up, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.

Her earlier life was filled with raising her two children, Jason Quint and Misha Dawn.  As a beloved mother and homemaker, Deloris created a nurturing and joyful environment for her family.  She had a remarkable talent for cooking unique dishes that delighted family and friends alike.  She dedicated her life to her family, creating a loving home filled with laughter, kindness, and countless cherished memories.  Gatherings at her home were always filled with laughter and the comforting aroma of her delicious homecooked meals.

Deloris was a librarian at Santa Fe High School where she instilled a love of reading into countless students. She made the library a welcome haven for all. Her passion for cheerleading allowed her to volunteer as the cheerleading coach where her creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication were evident.

A talented quilter, Deloris loved crafting beautiful, one-of-a-kind quilts, often sharing her lovely work with friends and family. She proudly contributed her talents to ‘Wounded Warriors Project®’. She was always buzzing with activity. You would never catch her sitting around.  She was always either baking, painting, crafting, decorating, or building something unique in the backyard. Her creativity knew no bounds.  She often shared her talents with family, especially her grandchildren, who loved crafting and baking alongside her.

The family wishes to thank Deloris ‘amazing doctors at St Luke’s Hospital for their care, concern, and treatment, and the wonderful Hospice care staff for their help and kindness during her last weeks.

Her spirit of creativity, love, generosity, and dedication to family will live on in the hearts and memories of those she touched.  She was a beautiful soul and will always be cherished by everyone who knew her. Rest in peace, dear Aunt Dee.
