Mr. Donald “Don” Joe Wilkins passed from this life Sunday afternoon, July 14, 2024, in Houston.
Born September 7, 1936, in Abilene, Mr. Wilkins had been a resident of Santa Fe for most of his life. He attended UT in Austin, earning a post degree from MT (ASCP) and had worked as a medical technologist for Mainland Medical Center for 28 ½ years. Don was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men’s Group as well as the Jacee’s. He facilitated at many bible study groups. Don enjoyed bowling and playing dominoes but loved spending time with family, especially his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Mattie Viola (Sumerlin) Wilkins; sisters, Opal Neely, Jewell Edwards, Bobbie Allen; brother, Jimmy Wilkins.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Norma Sue Wilkins; sons, David Wilkins and fiancé, Lisa Walker, Dwayne Wilkins and wife, Tracy; sister-in-law, Linley Wilkins; grandchildren, Amanda and Robert Mullians, Kyle and Kristy Wilkins, Branden and Sara Wilkins, Presten and Richelle Wilkins, Brynlea Wilkins, Riley Lutes; great grandchildren, Leah Shaw, Thomas Mullians, Elizabeth Wilkins and Paisley Wilkins.
A visitation with the family will be 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
