SANTA FE – Mr. Edward Donald McGehee passed away at the age of 102 on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, in Webster.

Born November 3, 1922, in Merkel, Texas, Mr. McGehee was a resident of Santa Fe for 28 years, previously of La Marque. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice in combat, a testament to his courage and commitment. After the war, he pursued his education at Texas Tech University, earning a degree in civil engineering. Among his many contributions, he was instrumental in the development of the Texas City Levee and the renovations of Houston’s bayous, in the 1960’s, leaving a lasting legacy in flood control. Beyond his professional achievements, Edward was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in flounder fishing at the Coast Guard station in Galveston. He also had a passion for gardening, taking great pride in his homegrown tomatoes, which he lovingly shared with family and friends.
