Mrs. Elena Hinojosa Martinez passed from this life surrounded by loved ones Friday afternoon, November 15, 2024, in Conroe, TX.
Born June 26, 1934 in Taft, TX, and blessed as the second oldest of 16 children, Mrs. Martinez was raised in Taft, TX then resided in Lompoc, California before returning to Sinton, TX followed by Santa Fe, La Marque, and Conroe, TX. Guided by God’s loving instructions and mercy through joys and sorrows, Elena embraced life experiences to serve as a humble Christian and kind, tender example of a loyal friend, daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a tower of strength, reliability and stamina to family and possessed great sensitivity and stewardship for all those around her. She was grounded in her Faith to enjoy life to the fullest, to understand and treat others as we want to be treated, and to calmly maintain and improve her family home, ensuring a haven for peace and security. Elena loved working as a teacher and being a Guadalupana member, volunteering, music, laughter, her hats & shoes, doll collection, and butterflies – and even more, her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Isidoro S. Martinez, Jr., son, Daniel H. Martinez, grandson, Luis Hunter Martinez, parents, Juan R. and Andrea (Ayon) Hinojosa, and numerous close relatives in the Hinojosa and Martinez extended families.
Survivors include her sons, Isidore H. Martinez, III and wife, Terry, Dr. Luis H. Martinez and wife, Mary Jane, David H. Martinez and wife, Debra, Charles H. Martinez and wife, Isabel; daughters, Cynthia Shane and husband, Robert, Lucinda Cerda and husband, Jose, Jr.; 16 grandchildren, Angela, Andrea, Lori, Chris, Rob, Sherry, Mark, Josh, Caleb, Aaron, Adrienne, Christina, Dominique, Davin, Carlos, and Catya; 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m.- 9:00 a.m., Friday, November 22, 2024, at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 State Highway 6 in Santa Fe, TX. A Rosary will follow at 9:00 a.m. Procession to a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 110 E. South Street in Alvin, TX. Procession to interment and Rite of Committal will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery, 7301 Memorial Street in Hitchcock, TX under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. A reception honoring the legacy and memories of Elena Hinojosa Martinez will be immediately after.
Casketbearers will be Christopher Martinez, Joshua Shane, Caleb Shane, Aaron Cerda, Davin Martinez, and Carlos Martinez-Gloria. Honorary casketbearers are Rob Shane, Mark Shane, and Hunter Martinez.
