Emily Jo (Wilson) Bissell

HOUSTON - Mrs. Emily Jo Bissell passed from this life Sunday morning, August 25, 2024, in Houston.

Born September 17, 1930, in Hope, Arkansas, Emily was a long-term resident of League City and was a member of the Webster Presbyterian Church for 35 years, where she attended Bible study weekly. She was an avid golfer at South Shore Harbour where she proudly was the first women’s club champion. Emily loved traveling with family and with treasured friends on golf vacations and cruises. In her later years she enjoyed sitting in her swing on her back porch watching golfers on the ninth hole and chatting with neighbors. Her love for games extended beyond the golf course, as she played bridge and was a dedicated member of three bridge clubs which she continued to play until the age of 90. Emily was also a beloved grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Grace (Levins) Wilson; brother, Buddy Wilson; brother-in-law, Jim Bissell.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, John W. Bissell; son, John Bissell and wife, Debbie; daughter, Melinda Wycoff and husband, John; sisters-in-laws, Judy Bissell, Claudette Wilson; grandchildren, Jake Bissell and wife, Alysha, Becca O’Neil and husband, Casey, Kim Weatherby and husband, Cole, Ross Wycoff and wife, Madelyn, Tori Cooper and husband, Adam; great grandchildren, Carson, Dylan, Brooke, Quinn, Wilson, Emily and Addie.

A cremation was conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
