PHILADELPHIA, MISSISSIPPI - Mrs. Emma Sue (Stuart) Nowell passed from this life Friday, March 24, 2023, at her residence in Philadelphia, MS, at the age of 90.

Born March 5, 1933, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, Emma was a loving and supportive wife to Lester Billy Nowell, Sr., a caring, nurturing and loving mother, a forgiving and loving grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her son, Billy Nowell, Jr. and wife, Tracy; daughter, Debbie Nowell Martin and husband, Jerry; granddaughters, Erin Nicole Hoelscher Martinez and husband, Zeke, Michelle Nowell Carruth and husband, Brian; great-grandchildren, Harlee Marie Hoelscher, Mason Wayne Hoelscher, Levi Layne Hoelscher, Charlie Carruth, Penelope Carruth, Stevie Carruth; sisters, Ana Lou Crosby, Wanda Sharpe, Betty Kilgore, Martha Ashley, Joan Vines, Frances Hollingsworth; sister-in-law, Ollie Stuart; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

From the time she was very young, she helped her parents on the farm. Whether it was picking cotton, milking cows, picking vegetables from the garden, cooking, sewing, and taking care of her 6 sisters while her parents were working on the farm. She was always busy.

Mom was always wanting to help others. She went through a rigorous 2 year training to be able to have our dad’s dialysis machine in our home and take care of him. She babysat numerous children, she worked for home health taking care of the sick and became a preschool teacher. This was all after being co-owner with our dad of City Air Conditioning and Appliance.

Mom would answer to, Momma, Granny, Ms. Sue, Emma Sue and Sue Sue.

She longed to be with dad who was the love of her life. She is finally reunited with him and I know they are both so very happy.

Fly high my angels! We love and miss you both!

Mrs. Nowell was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Billy Nowell, Sr.; grandson, Nicholas Aaron Hoelscher; parents, Leonard and Fairy Stuart; brother, LaDon Stuart; nephew, Leonard Stuart.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023, at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
