Esther Trusty Obituary

Esther Lorraine Ecker Trusty, 77, of Hitchcock, TX was called home the week of January 21, 2025. The unexpected passing took many by surprise, even Buddy her beloved 4-legged companion.

Esther, one of nine children, was born to Samuel and Helen Ecker in Maryland on November 13, 1947. She resided in Maryland until after her marriage to the man of her dreams, the love of her life, her man in uniform, James “Jim” Trusty. It wasn’t long after their marriage that Jim would transfer to the Coast Guard Base in Galveston, TX which brought the Trusty couple to Hitchcock, TX. They were married for over 25 years until Jim’s death in 2000. Though Jim and Esther didn’t have children of their own, they did share a love for classic cars and each had their own. They were members of The Space City Cruisers where Esther was the Membership Coordinator for many years, up until her passing. She also coordinated the efforts of scoring the judging sheets – and what Esther said, well - it was gospel.

On that note, Esther was a long-standing member of the All Saints' Episcopal Church of Hitchcock. For many years Esther was the Church Administrator with many responsibilities such as coordinating the lessons, music and scripture readings, caring for the members of the church whether vising the ill or homebound, even delivering sacraments to them as well. She even assisted with shuttling members to the doctors’ appointments or to medical treatments. There wasn’t much of anything Esther wouldn’t do for the Church and its members, her family.

When it was decided to close the church down, another one of Esther’s loves was gone. While she was no longer stressed with running the Annual Spring Car Show on Saturday of Easter weekend and then rushing to get things ready for Easter Morning services on Sunday, she really would not have had it any other way. The Space City Cruisers kept her going as did her faith. She had become a member at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in La Marque. Her favorite thing was getting with the All Saints' Ladies at Kelley’s for their Monthly Lunch and catch-up session. Not only was she on cloud nine after attending, but Buddy was treated like a king when they shared Esther’s take-home food.

While there is no doubt where Esther went after her last breath on earth, we now know that she is rejoicing in the Highest with those who preceded her in death, in the place that she so many times said, “You don’t get to pick your time to go, you just have to be ready for the day.” Betting her friends, family and extended family members, everyone believes that Esther was ready. She leaves behind a hole in many hearts, however, the fond memories we have of her will help us through the tough time until we see her again.

Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 8th at 11am, at Hayes Funeral Home’s All Saints' Sanctuary Annex, located at 10416 Hwy 6, Hitchcock, TX. Car club members are encouraged to bring their vehicles in her honor. Bring pictures and your favorite story about Esther.
