Gerald Nordin Obituary

CANYON LAKE - Mr. Gerald Wayne Nordin passed from this life Sunday morning, July 13, 2025, in Santa Fe.

Gerald was a man who wore many hats, doing so with grace and pride. He was born on September 18, 1946, in Shreveport, Louisiana. After his family moved to Texas, Gerald started attending Santa Fe ISD in 7th grade. About a year later, he volunteered at the Algoa Fire Department. He met the love of his life, Mary (Moody), while attending Santa Fe High School, and it took him only a year to realize she was the one for him, leading to their marriage in 1966. It was then that he officially joined the Alta Loma Volunteer FD. After graduation, he worked in the oil field with his father and then as a pipefitter before enlisting in the U.S. Army in May 1968. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War while earning his A&P license. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the GSA Automotive Division while pursuing an associate’s degree in automotive technology at night through the College of the Mainland. His dreams came true when he opened Santa Fe Car Care, serving the Galveston County community for 31 years. Despite his personal achievements and determination, he always made time to be a wonderful father, attending his daughter’s recitals, coaching his son, and later, his grandson in football and baseball. His ongoing service in the fire department spanned 48 years, during which he held the roles of Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, and President. He also served as president of WCID #8 for many years and enjoyed volunteering at the Lone Star Flight Museum. Gerald, a man who helped many over the years, never gave up even when things got tough. He did what was necessary to serve his community, his country, and his family, whom he loved deeply. His strength of character is something that should always be genuinely admired and remembered.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Doris (Blume) Nordin.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Nordin; son, Darren Nordin, and wife, Dana; daughter, Kara Nordin; brother, Bobby Nordin, and wife, Mimi; sister, Janette Moers, and husband, George; sister-in-law, Cynthia Moody; brother-in-law, Kenny Moody, and wife, Cari; grandchildren, Josh Nordin (Lexi), Caitlyn Campbell (Weston), Lysabeth Barron (Jeremy), Clara Nordin and Case Kuehl; great-grandchildren, Penelope, Charlee, Bradley, Olivia, and one on the way; along with numerous family members and close friends who loved him dearly.
