SUGAR LAND - Helen Marie (Sorensen) Olsen, age 99, of Sugar Land, TX passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at West Houston Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Houston, TX.

Born February 2, 1923, in Gardner, IL to the late Chris and Bessie (Woodland) Sorensen, Helen Marie was a long-time member of the Church of Hope in Gardner, IL and then the First United Methodist Church of Sugar Land. She taught Sunday school for many years, was previously employed as a cook for GSW High School Cafeteria, a line worker at the Joliet Ammunition Plant and of course – as a farmer’s wife. She enjoyed playing cards, trips to Las Vegas, talking with friends, watching the Chicago Cubs and NASCAR, and was a great cook and baker. She was known for her “fudge squares”, chocolate chip cookies, lemon cake, cinnamon rolls, and coffee cakes.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Alvin Olsen, whom she married January 10, 1942, in Coal City, IL; daughter, Barbara Jean Olsen; three sisters, Evelyn Howland, Eulila Feddersen, and Ilene Anderson; three brothers, Lyle Sorensen, Cyrus Sorensen, and Merlin Sorensen.

A private cremation was conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
