Helen Frances Thompson, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025, in Santa Fe, Texas.
Helen was born on September 24, 1936, in Midway, Texas, to John and Opal (Wright) Thompson. From a young age, Helen was a hard worker, beginning her first job at just 13 years old. She spent more than 30 years working as an administrative assistant at the Transitional Learning Center in Galveston, Texas, where she was admired for her dedication, reliability, and caring nature. Helen retired at the remarkable age of 80.
Helen’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always put others before herself. Known for her kindness, humor, and generous heart, Helen never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
In her spare time, Helen enjoyed going to garage sales and dining out with loved ones. Her family fondly remembers her love of a good bargain, her belief that a heads-up penny was a sign of good luck — she’d always pick it up and tuck it into her shoe. She truly was the kindest angel on earth and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Bell and Opal Odell Thompson; and her sisters, Mary Tacquard and Dorothy Thompson; son-in-law, Michael Wayne Hansen.
Helen is survived by her son, John Paul Thompson; daughter, Shana Sweeney Hansen; sister, Jean Smith; grandchildren, Amber Armbrester (Keith), Donald Sweeney (Jessica), Tristin Thompson, Cody Thompson (Kyleigh); and great-grandchildren, Bryson, Koltyn, Bowyn, Jettson, and Blakely; dear friends, Beverly and Jeff.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, Texas. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Thompson, Donald Sweeney, Cody Thompson, Keith Armbrester, Bryson Armbrester, and Koltyn Armbrester.
