DICKINSON – James Henry Reeves, III passed away at the age of 59 on July 7, 2026, in League City.

Born January 17, 1967, in Washington D.C., Mr. Reeves had been a resident of Dickinson for the past 15 years, previously of Webster. James will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful man who found joy in both intellectual pursuits and the simple pleasures of everyday life. As a programmer with NASA, he dedicated his talents to meaningful work, bringing curiosity, skill, and dedication to his profession. He was a proud alumnus of the University of Michigan.

Outside of work, James had a passion for adventure and imagination as a member of a Dungeons & Dragons group, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and creativity of shared storytelling. He also found peace in spending time fishing, taking pride in mowing the lawn, driving his tractor, and savoring a good cup of coffee. These simple moments reflected his appreciation for a life well lived.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Shirley Reeves; parents, James H. and Dawn Reeves, Jr. of Dexter, Michigan; son, Kevon Owens, Sr. of League City; brother, John Franklin Reeves and wife, Laura of Plymouth, Michigan; sister, Mary Hilma Howard and husband, Henry of Grand Island, New York; uncle, Bill Reeves; nephews, Steven Howard and wife, Rebecca, Alex Howard and wife, Kristen, Timothy Howard, David Reeves, Joseph Reeves; grandson, Kevon Owens, Jr.; children he raised, Margoaux Haywood, Autumn Jenkins, Tyniya Jefferson, Anari Jefferson; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock. Interment will follow at Rising Star Cemetery in La Marque.

Pallbearers will be Travis Turner, Zacharias Speaker, David Lewis, Tyrell Jefferson, Lewis McCordell and Keshawn Matthews.
