SANTA FE – Janet Cora Perry Tacquard, age 83 of Santa Fe, Texas, passed away at her home on the evening of Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Her passage to eternal life was peaceful and holy and she was surrounded by those she loved most.
Born April 29, 1941, in Indian Bayou, Louisiana, Janet was a 75-year resident of Hitchcock and Santa Fe.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Tacquard; her parents, Gene and Pearl St. Clair; siblings, Roberta Paoli, Elaine Bryant, Ray Perry, and Richard Perry; son-in-law, Carl Helms; and her granddaughter, Tiffanie Tacquard.
While she was attending Hitchcock High School, Janet’s brother introduced her to his friend, Willie Tacquard. A perfect match was made. They married in March of 1958, and for the next 48 years, one was rarely seen without the other. “Net” was absolutely devoted to Willie and vice versa. She was a loving and dedicated mom, an adored mother-in-law, and the proud Nana to ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom cherished and loved her dearly. She loved her family fiercely, accepting each one of us, flaws and all, as if we had none. There was never a time when it wasn’t possible to drop into Nana’s house. We might find her reading a book or playing solitaire. She might’ve been cooking or listening to Elvis. She wasn’t a fan of any kind of change, so she didn’t have a dishwasher, a computer, or a credit card, but she was perfectly happy without them. She loved being home, and her schedule was as reliable as clockwork. Unless it was her Wednesday shopping day with the girls, Nana was always available to make a pot of coffee, open the candy jar, provide a snack (her grilled cheese was a favorite, and each of the grandkids had to have a cup of coffee milk), be a last-minute babysitter, or just sit and visit about nothing and everything. She was welcoming and accepting and willing to share whatever she had. It was impossible for her grandkids to aggravate her, even with noisy toys that were designated by their parents for “Nana’s house only.” She taught card games, took special requests for baked treats or her famous dirty rice, and never got tired of playing “Giddy Up Horsey.” The hallmark of any Tacquard birthday was a phone call from Nana singing to the birthday boy or girl. Even as her kids and grandkids “passed her up,” she would laugh and insist that she never got older than 29. She took pride in her role as a wife and mother, and was an excellent example to those around her of what it looks like to love unconditionally.
Janet is survived by her children, Bryan Tacquard, Tammie Helms, Greg Tacquard (Nancy), Lawrence Tacquard (Bridget), and Michael Tacquard (D’Ann); grandchildren, Amy Smith (Steven), Bryan Scott Tacquard (Heather), Stephen Moore (Jessica), Kevin Moore (Ryan), Greg Tacquard Jr. (Cacey), Jason Tacquard (Amanda), Riley Tacquard, Colby Tacquard, Lane Tacquard, and Aaron Tacquard; great-grandchildren, Gavin (Marrisa), Gatlin, and Ganin Smith, Kadynce, Casen, and Makenna Tacquard, Jackson and William Moore, Turner and Madelyn Tacquard, Addison and Kase Tacquard; great-great-grandchildren, Cohen and Magnolia Smith; sister, Shirley Howard (Henry); brother, Ken St. Clair (Nancy); sisters-in-law, Elaine Tacquard, Sue Jane Perry, and Jimmie Jo Perry; and numerous other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Being with Nana had a calming effect. She was reliable, predictable, and dependable - truly someone we could count on, no matter what, and we will miss her terribly.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 4:30 - 6:00 Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Hayes Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 6:00. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (10114 Hwy. 6, Hitchcock, TX. 77563) with interment to follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, TX.
