Mrs. Janie Gill passed away at the age of 72 on Friday, June 26, 2026, in La Marque.
Born December 26, 1953, in Texas City, Mrs. Gill had been a resident of La Marque since 2025 and had previously been a 49-year resident of Texas City. Janie dedicated 30 years to serving as a first-grade special education teacher at Northside Elementary, where she touched the lives of countless students with her patience, compassion, and unwavering commitment to helping every child reach their potential. Janie was a former member of Arcadia Christian Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. Outside of the classroom, she enjoyed teaching swimming, helping others build confidence and life skills in the water. She also loved taking cruises, where she found joy in exploring new places and creating lasting memories with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Wilburn and Verda Florence (Netter) Newlin.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Boyd Gill; daughters, Andrea Gill of Conroe, Cristina Gill of Texas City; sister, Debbie Newlin of Dickinson.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Cole officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
