SANTA FE – Jarel O. Thompson, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2026, at his home in Santa Fe.
He was born December 2, 1939, in Galveston, Texas to Hubert and Dorothy Thompson. He was a 1959 graduate of Ball High School. He married Sylvia Kopecky on July 23, 1960, in Galveston. He worked for over 37 years as a Master Carpenter at Monsanto / Sterling Chemical, Texas City. He was also an avid fisherman and carpenter. He served his country in the U.S. Marines Reserves in the early to mid-60’s. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Santa Fe, Texas and was very active in the Knights of Columbus Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sylvia Ann (Kopecky) Thompson; sister, Dorothy Jane (Thompson) Wise.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Cynthia Marie Herferth of Santa Fe, Texas and Laurie Ann Hartford of New Hampshire; brother, Bert Thompson of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Seth, Shawna, Madison and Colton; great-grandchildren, Alexi, Bodhi, Kodiaik, Marley and Nathaniel.
Visitation with the family will be at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, recited by the Knights of Columbus. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Father Larry Wilson, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Craig Fos, Seth Gagnon, William Holmes, Gene Macalik, Kenneth Macalik and Joey Rodriquez. Honorary bearers will be Tim Brister, Frank Murullo and Bob Wise.
