SANTA FE – Mr. Jerry Wayne “Boppa” Wright passed away at the age of 79 on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in Texas City.
Born December 17, 1945, a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served his country during the Vietnam War with honor and dedication. After his military service, he became a DPS State Trooper from 1968-1999. After retirement, he continued to serve his community spending 16 years as the Police Chief of Tiki Island and contributing to law enforcement through his involvement with the Sheriff’s Department Association and Department of Public Safety Officers Division. Beyond his career, Jerry found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He had a deep love for fishing, could often be found watching classic Western movies, and was passionate about coaching softball, mentoring and inspiring many along the way. His warmth, dedication, and sense of duty will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Mary Wright; twin grandsons, Jacob and Josiah; sister-in-law, Diane Wright; mother-in-law, Irene Fisher Neve; brother-in-law, Alton Gallaway.
Survivors include his wife of over 55 years, Carolyn Sue (Fisher) Wright; daughters, Kim Ellis and husband, Jimmy of League City, Lisa Bowling and husband, Richard of Needville; brothers, Milton Wright, Jr. and wife, Marion of Rosenburg, Everett Wright of China Springs; 7 granddaughters; 8 grandsons; 4 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2025, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Mr. Richard Bowling and Mr. Russell McLaughlin officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Bowling, Mattthew Bowling, Judah Bowling, Jordan Bowling, Micah Bowling, Reece Bowling, Everett Wright and Jimmy Ellis.
