TEXAS CITY – Mrs. JoAnn S. Powell (née Micheletti) passed from this life Monday afternoon, November 10, 2025, in League City.
Born May 27, 1936, in Galveston, Mrs. Powell was a lifelong area resident. JoAnn attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and worked as a Business Office Administrator at Mainland Medical Center for 15 years. Known for her dedication and kindness, she formed many lasting friendships with colleagues and patients alike. Outside of work, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life — fishing, gardening, cooking, shopping, and caring for her beloved pets. One of her proudest moments came when she won a boat, motor, and trailer in a fishing tournament, a story she loved to share with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Evergisto and Lilly (née Benzaia) Micheletti; husband, Howard A. Powell, Sr.; brothers, Robert Micheletti, Gildo Micheletti, Richard Micheletti; sisters, Lydia O’Brian, Lillian Lambert.
Survivors include her son, Howard Powell, Jr. and wife, Cindy of Santa Fe; daughter, Lori Hammond Malone (née Powell) and husband, Thomas of Lake Oswego, Oregon; brother, Andrew Micheletti of Santa Fe; sisters, Gloria Sylvernale of California, Ruth McMillan of Galveston County, Diane Flynn and husband, Hugh of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Jaime Perez, Jennifer Johnson, Sean Hammond, Michael Malone, Kristin Malone, Jeff Evans, Justin Evans, Joseph Evans; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Logan Perez, Dylan, Jayce and Braden Johnson, Isabelle Hammond, Francesca and Dominic Evans, James Chambers.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Larry Wilson Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Jeff Evans, Joseph Evans, Justin Evans, Dylan Johnson, Jayce Johnson and Michael Malone. Honorary bearers will be Sean Hammond, Braden Johnson, Andrew Perez and Logan Perez.
Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501, with a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon Alvin Lovelady officiating. A Rosary will follow recited by Mrs. Cindy Powell.
