FALFURRIAS - Mr. Joel L. Mora, Sr., passed away on Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2026, in Santa Fe.
Joel L. Mora Sr. was born in Falfurrias, Texas, on October 16, 1946, to Daniel and Blanca Mora. He was the second of five children. Joel was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors. He spent every chance he could camping, hunting, and caring for the many animals he had throughout his life. A machinist by trade, he worked for Amoco Oil for over 30 years before retiring early in 2000.
He was truly a jack of all trades, spending evenings and weekends working on projects - rebuilding engines, building deer stands, and fixing just about anything he could get his hands on.
His pride and joy were his grandchildren, whom he spoiled every chance he could. They loved spending time with him on the ranch, helping with chores, riding the tractor, and hunting or target practicing in the evenings as the weather cooled.
Joel was also an amateur gunsmith, often buying and restoring old rifles and reloading his own ammunition.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Blanca (Ramos) Mora; brother, Daniel Mora, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 50 years, Grace (Martinez) Mora; daughter, Monica (Mora) Villarreal and husband, Salvador; sons, Joel L. Mora, Jr. and wife, Angela, Jaime Mora and wife, Cynthia; grandchildren, Tatiana Roque and Joel “Trip” Mora, III.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, 302 West Allen Street, Falfurrias, TX 78355.
