John Wayne Acey

SANTA FE – Mr. John Wayne Acey passed away at the age of 77 on Friday, March 20, 2026, in Santa Fe.

John was born in Belzoni, Mississippi on March 17, 1949, to Aubrey Clifton and Elizabeth Caroline (Gower) Acey, being one of their 9 children. He was a country boy at heart who loved to fish and hunt throughout his life. At the young age of 18, John joined his fellow man and served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam conflict. After his discharge, John moved from Mississippi to Texas City and began his long 35-year career as a pipefitter at Valero. It was in 1996 that he married the love of his life, Deborah (LaMance). John was a longtime member of Calvary Crossroads Church, served as a deacon for many years and became close friends with Pastor Del Toler. John loved the Lord, and we know that he is with him now. He was also a member of the NRA and the American Legions. John had a great sense of humor and was always consistent with whatever he started or joined. He will be missed until we can see him again.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Elizabeth (Gower) Acey; brother, Eugene Acey; sister, Mary Castillo.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Deborah Acey; daughters, Amy Acey Scales and husband, Ronnie of Santa Fe, Angela Coffman of La Marque; step-son, Brian Craig and wife, Amanda of League City; siblings, Ruth McClain, Barbara Smith, Charles Acey and wife, Denise, Linda Acey, Debra Acey, Donna Wenger and husband, Kent; grandchildren, Dylan Acey and spouse, Lauren Comeaux, Avery Scales, Rebekah Scales, Casey Coffman, Dane Rendon, London Shannon, Kara Craig, Kevin Craig; great-grandchildren, Justin Rendon, Casey Coffman, Jr., Remy Coffman, Elijah Shannon, Julyan Ventura, Laney Rendon.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2026, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Del Toler officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dylan Acey, Justin Acey, Casey Coffman, Cody Goertz, Dane Rendon, Avery Scales, William Smith and Kent Wenger. Honorary bearers will be Charles Acey and Debra Acey.

Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
