John Neuman Obituary

SANTA FE - With full hearts, we celebrate the life of John Henry Neuman, who passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at the age of 90.

Born on August 6, 1935, in Hondo, Texas, John grew up with the simple joys that shaped him for life. He learned to hunt, fish the calm waters, and play guitar with his brother Bill and his best friend Johnny Morin - gifts that connected him to the land, to music, and to the people he loved. John left Hondo High School in the 9th grade to help his mother deliver milk for Rio Vista Farms and Metzgers Dairy. John honorably served in the Texas Army National Guard for 3 years as a Transportation Corporal in the Infantry. He carried those passions with him always.

John believed in the value of honest work. For more than 35 years he made his living as a professional truck driver, taking pride in every mile driven. When he wasn’t on the road, he was exactly where he wanted to be - out on the sawdust dance floor with his wife Sandy of over 48 years, surrounded by friends honky tonkin’ their nights away in the dance halls in the 1960’s, 70s and 80s. Those were some of the happiest moments, and he made sure everyone around him felt that joy too.

He had a delightfully playful spirit - one that always left you wondering whether his next reply would be serious or laced with humor. That spark – that humor, that mischief – made him unforgettable. It’s what we miss most.

John leaves behind a legacy not measured in the grand gestures, but in the countless small moments that made the people feel loved, welcomed, and at ease. His life reminds us that the truest gifts are simple ones – a laugh shared, a story told, a hand held, an open heart. And although he is gone, the echo of his kindness, his humor, and his gentle spirit will remain with us always.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Virginia (Schneider) Neuman; his baby brother, Wilbur Lee Neuman and his daughter, Priscilla Diane Neuman.

He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory always: his sons, Anthony Neuman and wife, Ramona, Robert Neuman and wife, Paula, John Neuman, Jr., and Douglas Neuman; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; his brother, William Hale (Bill) Neuman (Louise); his sisters, Alice Marie Horecka (Forrest), Wanda Jean Lackey (Glenn), and Pamela Sue Donnell (Cas); and many dear nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

A private cremation was conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home,10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, Texas, (409) 925–3501. A memorial service for John will be scheduled at a later date, with details to be shared.
