SANTA FE – Mr. Jon Mangum Eernisse, age 80, passed away Tuesday morning, December 30, 2025, in Webster, Texas.
Jon, lovingly known to most as Mangum, was born on January 14, 1945, in Alvin, Texas. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era as an aircraft fuel mechanic—a role that reflected his reliability, discipline, and quiet sense of duty. The technical skills and work ethic he developed during his military service laid the foundation for a long and dedicated career as an engineer.
Following his service, Jon worked for General Telephone and Electronics, companies that would later become Verizon, where he built a successful career as a telecommunications engineer. His work eventually brought him to Bryan, Texas, where he resided until 2006.
Mangum was a longtime member of Arcadia Christian Church. He found joy in life’s simpler pleasures, including gardening, raising rabbits, and beekeeping in his younger years. He was deeply committed to Freemasonry, serving as Past Master of John Mitchell Lodge No. 1401 AF&AM and holding membership in several other lodges for more than 44 years. His Masonic service was a testament to his leadership, integrity, and lifelong commitment to serving others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Berlie (Rogers) Eernisse; his sister, Joyce Stanley; and his brothers, Michael Eernisse and Roger Eernisse.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Joan Robbins and her husband, Robert; his brother, Ralph Eernisse and wife, May Ann; his sister, Sarilda Eernisse; grandchildren, Tiffany Oblinger and husband, Andrew and James Robbins; great-grandchildren, Nora Oblinger and Violet Oblinger; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Mr. Jeffrey Eernisse officiating. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Alan Eernisse, Randy Evans, Jonathan Munoz, Jacob Munoz, Pat Munoz, and James Preston.
