LEWISVILLE - Jose "Joe" Velasquez, Sr., 67, of Lewisville, TX, passed away on January 24, 2024.

Joe was born on June 16, 1956, in Harlingen, TX. After Joe graduated from Madison High School in Houston, TX in 1974, he joined the United States Air Force.  He served over 11 years and received numerous awards.  While enlisted he received his BS in Healthcare Services from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and went on to earn his MA in Procurement and Acquisitions Management from Webster University. After leaving the military, Joe kick started a 38-year career in Hospital Logistics. Prior to his passing Joe worked as Administrative Director – Hospital Supply Chain for University of Mississippi Medical Center for 3 years. In his free time, Joe enjoyed playing golf, reading, traveling to watch his son compete at golf and spending time with family and friends. Joe was a deeply beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend. He was a rock to many and a master at humor to all. There was so much more to him than just a husband and dad, though to us that was his greatest role - he was also a friend, a coworker, and colleague.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix Saldivar and Francisca (Araujo) Velasquez and his brother, Felix Velasquez, Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 28 years, Yolanda Velasquez; son, Jose Luis Velasquez, Jr. and fiancé, Maria Koutrouvelis; daughters, Alejandria Diego and husband, Salvador, Brandy Clark and husband, Sterling; brothers, Albert Velasquez and wife, Hope, Daniel Velasquez and wife, Alma; sisters, Sylvia DelaRosa, Letecia Arismendez and husband, Luis, Cathy Lucio and husband, Juan, Yolanda Velasquez-Araiza and husband, Sergio; grandchildren, Anthony, Alexander and Nadia Diego, Joshua Garza.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2024, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Joshua McDonald officiating.  Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Diego, Alexander Diego, Tristin Robinson, Thomas Boykin, Jordan Hernandez and Joshua Hernandez.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
