Larry Thomas Payne 

     SANTA FE - Mr. Larry Thomas Payne passed from this life Wednesday morning, October 10, 2018, in Webster. 

     Born June 4, 1947 in Bonham, Texas, Mr. Payne had been a resident of Santa Fe since 2008, previously of Houston. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was a police officer with the Greenville Police Department. Larry was an avid fisherman, who enjoyed working in his shop building things, Nascar, cooking and loved spending time with his dog Gus. 

     He was preceded in death by his parents, S. M. Payne and Elizabeth Ima (Hornsby) Price; step-father, Don Price. 

     Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Verona; children, Traci Mechele Rettig and husband, Larry of Greenville, Texas, Debbie Melcer of Santa Fe, John Rammer and wife, Ruby of Katy; sisters, Sue McBride of Spring, Ann Spencer of Sherman; grandchildren, Corie Rettig, Brandon Downey, Shelby Melcer and fiancé, Ryan, Dallas Servantes, Memphis Servantes; great-grandchild, Emma GraceAnn Brown; numerous nieces and cousins.   

     Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Dennis Jolly officiating.  Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery. 

     Pallbearers will be David Baldwin, Ryan Brown, Wade Krenek, Paul Melcer, John Rammer and Jimmy Strader. 

     Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.  

     Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Larry’s name to Coastal Conservation Association, 6919 Portwest Drive #100, Houston, Texas 77024 or the charity of your choice.
