TEXAS CITY – Mrs. Laura O’Neil (Hodgson) English passed away at the age of 84 on May 25, 2025, in Texas City.
Born October 6, 1940, in Bowie County, Texas, Laura was deeply rooted in her faith and took great joy in her active participation at Malta Baptist Church, where she contributed her time and spirit to many church activities and events. Her warmth and kindness touched all who worshiped alongside her. She spent many years as a bank teller with the State Bank of DeKalb. In her personal time, she enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: sewing with care and creativity, getting lost in a good book, tackling puzzles with quiet determination, and traveling to new places on family vacations. She especially cherished outings to the theater, where she delighted in the beauty of plays and performances.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Huly and Lona Dee (Shelton) Hodgson; husband, Clifford Ray English; daughter, Holy Elaine English; son, Toby Ray English.
Survivors include her son, John Mark English of Texas City; daughter, Carrie Lee English of Texas City; brothers, Perry Hodgson and wife, Fredia of Bivins, Wally Hodgson and wife, Betty of DeKalb; grandchildren, Phillip English and wife, Airica, Henry English; great-grandchildren, Izaak English, Leo English, Lucille English.
Graveside services in DeKalb are pending for a later date.
A cremation was conducted under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
