Lorenza H. (Hernandez) Castro

SANTA FE – Mrs. Lorenza Castro passed from this life Thursday afternoon, February 20, 2025, in Santa Fe.

Lorenza was born on November 22, 1937. At 17, she married the love of her life, Jose “Tilo”. Together they spent 65 cherished years together, laughing and sharing the love of their family. Lorenza spent most of her life caring for family and for others. She worked for SFISD as a custodian and as a cafeteria worker for many years. Lorenza retired as a grandmother, loving and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as much as possible. She never missed a sporting event regardless of where it was, she was going to be there to support and show her love to those kids. She was a wonderful woman who will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Tilo Castro; her parents, Bonifacio and Socorro (Luna) Hernandez; son, Samuel W. Castro Sr.; brothers, Bonifacio (Jr.) Hernandez, Roberto (Bobby) Hernandez; sisters, Socorro (Cora) Huerta, Julia Valdez.

Survivors include her sons, Robert T. Castro, Sr. and wife, Lucy, Frank R. Castro, Sr. and wife, Theresa, Gilbert “Gibby” Castro and wife, Cindy; daughter, Annette C. Garcia and husband, Paulo, Sr.; brother, Johnny Hernandez and wife, Mary; daughter-in-law, Maria Castro; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to her loving granddaughters and caretakers: Tina Uresti, Erica Lara and Sonia Kukuch. Also, to Magnolia Hospice especially Laura LaBry and Francine Robinson.

Casketbearers will be Daniel Castro, Denise Castro, Frank Castro, Jr., Robert Castro, Jr., Trini Castro, Luis Garcia, Paulo Garcia, Jr., Rodolfo Lara, III.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m., with a Rosary Service beginning at 10:00 a.m. recited by the Guadalupanas, followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Reverend Larry Wilson, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
