SANTA FE – Mrs. Mable Kathryn Smith passed from this life Monday evening, December 15, 2025, in Texas City.
Mable, known to most as Kathryn, was the first born to Earl Gordon and Billie Dolores (Claffarty) Andrews, Sr., on September 10, 1950, in Longview. As the oldest of 5 children, Kathryn was a natural caregiver. She was the family rock when it came to making sure the family was cared for in any capacity. She loved caring for her plants too – even taking special horticultural classes in college. She worked as a travel agent in her younger years but moved into the antique business where she ran 2 different stores, one in Galveston and the other in Santa Fe. After closing up shop, Kathryn found herself working for Gulf Greyhound Park as a security guard, eventually retiring after over a decade of service. There wasn’t a movie that Kathryn didn’t know about or hadn’t already seen. She loved spending her free time watching movies but her number one joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a selfless woman who put others before herself and would always lend a helping hand. Kathryn’s love and kindness will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim Smith; sister, Peachy; brothers, Skip, T. C. and Mike.
Survivors include her son, Paul J. Sunseri, Jr., and wife, Amy; daughter, Nicole Sunseri-Auzston and husband, Lee; grandchildren, Hailey Nicole Kellum, Branden Lee Auzston, Chloe Christine Auzston, Hope Kathryn Sunseri, Alexa Lynn Sunseri, Aubrey Lynn Sunseri; great-grandson, Asher Lee Auzston.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Larry Wilson, Celebrant.
