Mr. Marcelo R. Garcia passed away on July 25, 2025, in La Marque, Texas

Marcelo, 97 years old, was born in Port Arthur, Texas on September 24, 1927, to Marcelo and Dora Garcia. In 1954, he met Gertrude Escobedo in Corpus Christi, Texas and instantly fell in love. They were married on April 16, 1955, and immediately began a family which grew into 7 children. Marcelo was a great husband and a wonderful father who always led by example in the most positive ways. He worked hard to provide for his family by remodeling and painting homes for over 50 years. We’re sad to see him gone but we are so grateful that he is reunited with the love of his life, Gertrude.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven siblings, and wife, Gertrude Escobedo Garcia.

Survivors include his sons, Rodolfo and wife, Jovita Garcia, Ruben Garcia, Joel and wife, Donna Garcia, Marcelo Garcia, Jr.; daughters, Becky and husband, Martin Jimenez, Rachel and husband, Ysidro Cantu, Grace and husband, Kenny Rutherford; 20 grandchildren; over 40 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX, with Pastor Mario Gutierrez officiating.  Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Erik Garcia, Nathan Garcia, Michael Rutherford, Mitchell Rutherford, Nico Villalpando, Ben Walker, Giuliano Villalpando, and Alex Gordon.
