GALVESTON - Margaret Ann (Brown) Carr, born on July 18, 1942, in Tuscumbia, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at her home in Galveston, Texas. Margaret spent most of her life in Galveston, where she raised her family and became a beloved member of the community.
Margaret was known for her 17 years at Corella’s Corral Restaurant in Galveston, where she touched the lives of many with her never-ending kindness and warmth. She was loved by everyone and anyone who knew her. Her kind heart, beautiful smile, long blonde hair, and sway in her walk were signature traits that left an impression on all who crossed her path.
Margaret loved to play bingo and to read. She could often be found watching Law and Order with a warm cup of coffee in one hand and a crossword puzzle in the other. She had a deep love for the Lord Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for many years.
Her love for music and dancing was infectious, especially when it came to the sounds of Janis Joplin, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, and The Beatles. Margaret was a free spirit, a lover of all people, and a kind soul to the world. Margaret was a mother and friend to all, often taking in all the neighborhood kids, offering a warm meal and embrace. Her home was a place of love and comfort, where everyone felt welcome.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, George Brown and Margaret DeGraw; her brothers, Virgil, Bockey, Joe, and Robert; her sons, Johnny Sireno and William “Billy” Carr; and her beloved chihuahua, Monty, who brought her great joy.
She is survived by her devoted children: Anna Dudley (Earl), James “Jimbo” Carr, Shirley Newell, Donna Agrella (James), and David Carr. Margaret was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren, Brad Newell, III (Simone), Ajah Ochoa (Greg), Charlie Newell (Sierra), Eric Dudley (Chae), Amanda Newell, Jessica Randle (Aubrey), Tiffany Carr, Kaleb Carr (Annie), and Taylor Carr (Natalie). She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren who will continue her legacy. Margaret’s extended family and friends, including Brad Newell Jr., Robbie Guarnelo, Jackie Garcia (O’Mara), and the Brown family from Louisiana, will deeply miss her presence. Over the years, Margaret opened her heart and home to many others, becoming a cherished "bonus" mother and grandmother to countless people.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at North Star Hospice for their compassionate care during Margaret’s final week and to her dedicated caregiver, Ciara Murray.
Margaret’s life was a testament to the strength of family, faith, and the warmth of unconditional love. She will be forever remembered and dearly missed.
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Rusty Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
