Maria De Lourdes (Balvantin) Chavarria

SANTA FE - Mrs. Maria De Lourdes (Balvantin) Chavarria passed from this life on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in Webster.

Maria was born on December 29, 1959, in Múzquiz, Mexico, to Rafael Balvantin and Alicia Valdez. She met the love of her Life, Jose Hernan Chavarria in February 1984, in Texas City and married 3 months later in May and they shared 41 amazing years together. Maria was a resident of Texas City before moving to Santa Fe where she resided for the past 31 years. Maria’s home was always a reflection of her, warm, welcoming nature, and was always immaculately kept. Maria hosted many birthdays and holidays, most times doing all the BBQing and cooking herself, she was a great cook being able to make anything with just a few ingredients, cooking for others was her love language. She was a faithful member of Iglesia Bautista Santa Fe, where she found strength in her faith and fellowship. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her children, Myra Alejandra, Maria Magdalena, and Diego Hernan, they were her world, that is until her granddaughter, Shyla Blue was born in 2012 and her grandson, River Matthew was born in 2015.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rafael and Alicia; her sisters, Maria Del Refugio, Maria De Inez, Maria Del Rosario “Chayo” Rodriguez, Maria Del Carmen Guadarrama; and her brothers-in-law, Antonio Marroquin, and Fidel Chavarria.

Survivors include her husband Jose Hernan Chavarria, of Santa Fe; daughters, Myra Alejandra Chavarria Steele-Jones and husband, Errol of Santa Fe, and Maria Magdalena Chavarria and Harry Franklin of La Marque; son, Diego Hernan Chavarria and wife, Genevieve of League City; granddaughter, Shyla Blue Steele-Jones; grandson, River Matthew Steele-Jones; sister, Rosa Elba Marroquin of Monterey, Mexico; brothers, Alphonso Balvantin, and Jose Luis Balvantin and wife, Mary Louisa, all of Santa Fe; her very dear friend and partner in crime, Maytte Sanchez, of Guadalajara, Mexico; and her sister in law, Norma Chavarria of Texas City; numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2025, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastors Benito Aguilera, and Pedro Covarrubias officiating.

Pallbearers will be Errol Steele-Jones, Harry Franklin, Diego Chavarria, Jose U. Chavarria, Luis Balvantin, Alfonso Balvantin and Gerado Balvantin.
