Maria Paz Riel Lares

DICKINSON – Mrs. Maria Paz Riel Lares passed from this life Saturday morning, February 7, 2026, in Dickinson.

Born May 19, 1947, in Maragondon, Philippines, Maria was a devoted member of St. Mary’s of the Expectation Catholic Church, where her faith was an important part of her daily life. She found great joy in quilting, crocheting, and sewing—crafting not only beautiful pieces but lasting memories for those she loved. A truly fabulous cook, she expressed her love through her kitchen, where family and friends were always welcomed with warmth, laughter, and a delicious meal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mariano C. and Bernardina (Narvaez) Riel; sisters, Zenaida Narvaez Riel and Mary Milady Narvaez Riel.

Survivors include her loving husband of over 54 years, David Pakingan Lares; sons, Peter David Lares and wife, Dana of League City, John David Lares of Dickinson; daughter, Mary Milady Lares of Dickinson; brothers, Nazario Narvaez Riel of San Diego, CA, Julius C. Narvaez Riel of Cherry Hill, NJ, Roger Narvaez Riel of Sugar Land, TX; sisters, Aurora Narvaez Riel Grimes of Maragondon, Philippines, Rosa Linda Riel Bagalawis of Framingham, MA, Maria Elena Narvaez Riel of Union City, CA; grandson, Gabriel Pierce Lares of League City, TX.

Visitation will be held from 9 - 10 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2026, at St. Mary’s of the Expectation Catholic Church, 1612 E. Walker Street, League City, Texas 77573. A Rosary will follow at 10:00 a.m. recited by Mr. Don LeCompte. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father Simon Kipiti, Celebrant.
