SANTA FE – Ms. Mary Etta “Chetta” Williams passed from this life Sunday morning, December 3, 2023, in La Marque.


Mary, known by most as “Chetta”, was born in Neshoba County, Mississippi on December 2, 1929. Chetta placed her faith in the Lord and loved going to her church, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, to worship Him. Chetta worked as a secretary in the construction industry for over 30 years. She was chosen by the Core of Engineers to go overseas for work. She was able to visit many places like Japan and Saudi Arabia. Chetta’s love for traveling continued even when she got back to the states. In her spare time, Chetta loved to curl up with a good book.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Fletcher and Nila Ethel (West) Barnes; sisters, Johnnie Fox, Helen Burt, Thelma (Jackie) Curtis, Jean Curtis.


Survivors include her nephew, Wayne Curtis; niece, Dorothy Harrelson; numerous great nieces and nephews.


Graveside services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
