SANTA FE - Neita (Williams) Edgar found peace and comfort in the arms of her Savior on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at her home in Santa Fe, Texas.
Neita was born in Lamesa, Texas on June 8, 1938, to Claude Williams and Beatrice Richardson Williams. As a young woman, Neita worked at the Lamesa General hospital as a nurse before meeting her husband, Garth Edgar, marrying in Lamesa on August 1, 1959. With the family growing, they moved to Copperas Cove where Neita was employed by the Copperas Cove ISD. There, she worked as a crossing guard and drove a 72-passenger school bus on the weekdays and transported students on many field trips to the State Capitol in Austin. She also served as the PTA President for several years.
Moving in 1977 to Petrolia, Texas, to be closer to in-laws, Neita became a full-time caregiver for the better part of four years to her two youngest children following a motorcycle accident. Then in 1991, Neita moved to Santa Fe where she found purpose and joy at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She was a proud member of the United Methodist Women and served in the Bereavement Ministry for over 20 years, coordinating food and luncheons for grieving families. Neita also served as the Santa Fe AARP President for several years. Throughout her life, she was a wonderful cook and baker, particularly her Thanksgiving dressing and pumpkin bread that everyone looked forward to receiving in the fall. She was also always excited for the church Bazaar, bringing her baked goods, crafts, and hand towels she would create in the shape of small dresses. She loved to read, sew, make jewelry, play cards and dominos, and loved a good western movie.
Neita is survived by her daughters, Janie Walker of Houston, Bartina Gonzales and husband, Mark of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Jessie Edgar, Sally Walker, Mathew Walker, Patricia Gonzales, Becky Walker, Treva Edgar, Kendra Edgar, Rebecca Cox and husband, Joshua and Mark Anthony Gonzales and fiancé, Amber Holcombe; four beloved brothers, Robert Williams of Moore, OK, Roger Williams and wife, Terry, of Clyde TX, Gaylon Williams and wife, Evelyn, of San Angelo, and David Williams and wife, Larue, of Weatherford TX, as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Neita at 86 years was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Kathleen Daughtery, Christine Graham, and Claudine Brown; her sons, Donald Kent Edgar and Andrew Kirk Edgar.
Neita was blessed beyond measure with wonderful, loving friends. She will be dearly missed by her family, her Aldersgate church family, and her amazing friends at her apartment, Shelly, Sally, and Moses, who took care to check on her daily, and whom Neita regularly thanked with cookies and pumpkin bread.
A special note of gratitude to Annette and Rebecca of Spectrum Hospice; your gentle touch and kindness meant so very much.
A Celebration on Life service will be held on August 31, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 13217 FM 1764, Santa Fe with Rev. Amy Peters officiating.
Neita will be laid to rest with her departed family members in Cross Plains TX on October 5, 2024, following a service with her family.
Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
