Opal Blackmon Obituary

SANTA FE – Mrs. Opal B. Blackmon passed away at the age of 94 on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in League City.

Born April 1, 1931, in Galveston, TX, she was a proud BOI. Mrs. Blackmon was a lifelong resident of Santa Fe. She formerly worked at Weingarten’s, Kmart, American National Life Insurance Company and Gaido’s. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, caring for her plants and flowers. A true animal lover, she adored her cats and all animals. Above all, she loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lillian (Preslar) Otto; husband, John Blackmon; brothers, Sonny Nelson, Frederick E. Otto, Sr., George Earl Otto, Thomas Walter Otto, Jr., Robert Lee Otto; sisters, Bonnie Ruth Outlaw, Tommie Jean Shiver, Ruby Leigh Thompson.

Survivors include her son, Larry Morneau and wife, Janis of Buffalo, Texas; daughter, Lynne Sanderson and husband, Ronnie of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Quinton Morneau, John Stubbs, Deanna Bornmann and husband, Keith; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Opals wishes were to be cremated, and her ashes buried beside her husband at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials in the form of donations may be made in Opal’s name to Galveston Island Humane Society, 6814 Broadway, Galveston, Texas 77554, or any charity of your choice.
