Paul Ganter Obituary

Paul A. Ganter

SANTA FE – Paul A. Ganter passed from this life on April 10, 2023. He is now with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Paul was a BOI, born August 18, 1932, in Galveston, to Bernard and Marie Ganter (née Bozka). After marrying, he moved to Alta Loma, now Santa Fe, and remained there.

Paul graduated from Kirwin High School in Galveston in 1949. He was a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin in 1955, earning a degree in physical engineering and was a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. Paul and Doris were married in 1964 and were blessed with four children.

As a teenager, Paul worked on the wharfs in Galveston. After completing his education, in his early career, he worked for Kane Boiler Works in Mexico. Later, Paul was employed with Falstaff Brewery until its closing and continued his career as an administrative director in the pathology department of UTMB, retiring in 1995.

Paul loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, camping and riding horses. While growing up, he spent many summers in Hallettsville, TX with his extended family, honing those skills. Paul continued to pursue these hobbies throughout his life, often returning to Hallettsville, and sharing his knowledge and experience with his children and grandchildren. Paul also enjoyed family. He made a point to always be supportive and present with his children’s and grandchildren’s endeavors. Paul was a great family historian with a wealth of information. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing his experiences, telling stories and revisiting the times gone by with amazing detail.

Paul was also very passionate about his devotion to our Heavenly Father. He was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and a board member of St. Mary’s Children’s Relief Fund. He strongly supported Catholic education, ensuring, not only his children, but countless others also received a solid foundation in Catholic education.

Paul is survived by his wife, Doris Ganter (née Duke); children, Paul Ganter, Jr. (Jennifer), Catherine Goodridge, Stephen Ganter and Rachael Spinks (Michael); grandchildren, Erin Barron (Jed), Joshua Ganter (Michaela Kennedy), Jacob Ganter (Ashley January), Katelyn Goodridge, Rebecca Sandoval (Aaron Henderson) and Reece Sandoval; great grandchildren, Brayden Barron, Brayci Barron, Brynlee Barron, Graycie Ganter, Tucker Ganter, Sutton Ganter and Jordyn Kennedy.
