Peggy Jean (Cary) Baker

Peggy Jean Baker passed away at the age of 84 on June 26, 2026, in Alvin.

Born on February 9, 1942, and surrounded by her family's love throughout her life, she leaves behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and kindness.

For 35 years, she faithfully served her community as a Registered Nurse at Mainland Hospital. Nursing was more than a profession to her—it was a calling. She cared for countless patients with a gentle touch, a caring heart, and unwavering dedication.

She found great joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved cruising with friends and creating cherished memories on every adventure. She never passed up a scoop of Blue Bell Vanilla Ice Cream or a cold Diet Coke, two of her favorite treats. Most of all, she treasured the time spent with her family. Whether gathering for holidays, sharing meals, or simply enjoying each other's company, her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by the people she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olen Paul and Christine Vivian (Hancock) Cary; husband, James Kenneth “Buddy” Baker; brothers, James Cary and Richard Cary.

Survivors include her sons, Larry Duffie and wife, Tracy, Max Van Houten, Jr.; daughter, Kim White and husband, David; stepson, Kenneth Baker and wife, Irene; stepdaughter, Kristi Harris and husband, Patrick; brother, Roger Guy Cary; grandchildren, Timothy Duffie, Brandy and Michael Townsend,  Sean LaFrage and Christina, Christopher Baxter, Taylor Newsom and Erica, Alexandrea and Garrett Reagan, Samantha and Chase Schroeder, Ty Van Houten, Tori Chovanetz, Trae White, Savannah White; great-grandchildren, Kameryn Townsend, Piper Townsend, Teagan Townsend, Austen LaFrage, Colten LaFrage, Stella Newsom, Ty Newsom, Carter Reagan, Baker Reagan, Waylon Chovanetz, Weslei Chovanetz; great-great grandchild, Rhett Porter.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2026, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Joshua McDonald officiating.  Interment will be at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Taylor Newsom, Sean LaFrage, Austen LaFrage, Colten LaFrage, Michael Townsend and Teagan Townsend.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
