Petra Garza

ALVIN—Mrs. Petra Garza passed away at the age of 91 on November 10th, 2025, in Alvin.

Born to Victoriano and Candida Garza on October 19th, 1934. She was the second youngest of 9 sisters and 2 brothers. At the age of 18, she met the love of her life, Martin Garza. Coming from a share-cropping family, she was no stranger to hard work. After Petra and Martin were married, they moved from Edinburgh, TX, to the Alvin area.

Petra made many lifelong friends. She was a homemaker, and while working at a small farm, she learned how to make a living from it. She also cleaned houses and served as a nanny for many years. Petra was a devoted wife and mother who loved to dance and was always the life of the party.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Victoriano Garza, Sr., and Candida Garza; her loving husband of fifty seven years, Martin; daughter, Sandra Kay Witterschein; 7 sisters, Aurora Guerrero, Catarina Garcia, Nazaria Guerrero, Domitila Cantu, Eva Munoz, Jesusa Charles and Marta Lopez; 2 brothers, Jesus Garza and Victoriano Garza, Jr.

Survivors include her sons, Martin A. Garza and wife, Stacy, David A. Garza, Benito A. Garza and wife, Sherri, Daniel A. Garza and wife, Paula; daughter, Petra Cecilia DeLeon and husband, Rogelio DeLeon; brother, Armando Garza and wife, Frances; sister, Pane Negrete and husband, Raymon; 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Lee Peoples officiating. Interment will be at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Anthony S. Garza, Benito Garza, Jr., Jonathan Garza, Martin Garza, Jr., Matthew J. Garza, and Jordan Salinas.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2025, at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
