Ray Edmund Cox, Sr.

LA MARQUE - Mr. Ray Edmund Cox, Sr., passed from this life Monday afternoon, September 23, 2024, in La Marque.

Ray was born on December 17, 1954, in Galveston. He loved living in Galveston County and worked for Steel Co. as a metal dipper for 25 years. Ray was a persistent man when it came to things he believed in. He was God fearing and didn’t mind telling people about his spirituality. Ray loved starting his day with a cup of coffee, free hand drawing, dancing and fishing. He enjoyed visiting with family and especially loved beating everyone at dominoes and card games. Ray was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Astro’s, watching their games every chance he could. He wasn’t the perfect man, but he was a good man, and we will miss his dry humor and wise-crack comments.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Thomas Cox, Jr, and Dorothy (Dieringer) and Frank Harriman; brother-in-law, Orgal Brown; wife, Debra Jean Cox; son, Michael Allen Sheffield.

Survivors include his son, Ray Cox, Jr. and wife, Felicia; daughter, Crystal Ann Cox; brothers, Roy T. “Tommy” Cox, III and wife, Dawn, Frank Douglas Harriman and wife, Frances; sisters, Julia Ann Chambless and husband, Mike, Theresa Ann Brown, Tammy Lynn Kelton and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Madison Renee Cox, Maci Lynn Cox, Mallori Cox, Triston Sheffield, Madison Reaves; great-grandchildren, Presleigh Fennell, Triston Nelson; many group home friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2024, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Reverend Tommy Cox officiating.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501.
