Robert Joseph Vines
SANTA FE - Mr. Robert Joseph Vines passed from this life Thursday morning, September 23, 2021, in Santa Fe.
Robert was born October 9, 1942, in Fort Worth to B. L. and Blanche Campbell Purvis Vines. After several moves, the family landed in Texas City where he graduated high school. He found a long and rewarding career in the Iron Workers Local 135 where he was a general foreman for over 30 years. While working, Robert went on to take college course at A&M University to become a shop teacher for the Local 135. This allowed him the opportunity to serve as Assistant Principal of their apprentice school for 5 years. After his retirement, Robert found himself working for the City of Houston as a plan analyst for 17 more years. In 1994, he met his soul mate, Cheryl, and they shared countless trips and good times together. Robert was an easy going, simple man who loved hunting, target shooting and saltwater fishing. His passion for shooting lead him to a more tedious hobby, which was reloading his own ammunition. He was an excellent gardener, growing just about anything he planted, but he was best known for his tomatoes. Robert was a family man above all these things. He faithfully cared and provided for them and especially loved having his family around to spend time together. He was a man of few words, but his sense of humor always came out. Robert will be greatly missed and always loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dion Duane Vines; sister, Frances Margo Haynes.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cheryl Vines; son, Dane Vines; daughter, Kalie Dean and husband, Gary; brother, Arthur Dudley Vines and wife, Vi; sister, Priscilla Ann Hiles; grandchildren, Kaleb Vines and wife, Shannon, Alexa Dean; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Del Toler officiating.
