ALVIN – Mr. Sherman David Harrod passed away at the age of 86 on Thursday, December 12, 2024, in Hemphill, Texas.
Sherman was born on September 24, 1938, in Whiteface, Texas. His sense of duty to his country was strong, which is why in 1955, Sherman joined the United States Army. While stationed in Germany, something unexpected happened - he met the love of his life, Gerda (Treutner). The two were married in Germany and eventually made it back to Texas after his tour was over in 1962. Sherman worked as an electrician at Texas Instruments and as a mechanic at Southwestern Bell but ultimately, he was a simple man who enjoyed working for himself. He started his own business, Alvin Alternator, and was the proud owner for 15 years. Sherman also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. With the passing of Gerda in 2012, we know that Sherman is over the moon to see his love again. She was his rock, and we are grateful they are reunited.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Barr; wife, Gerda Maria Harrod; brother, John “Bud” Harrod.
Survivors include his son, Sherman David Harrod, Jr.; daughters, Susanne Maria Flores, Betina Maria Bertrand and husband, Bud, Teresa Maria Boone and husband, Jim, Christine Maria Anderson and husband, Jimmy; sisters, Wanda Sue Perkins, Ann Montgomery and husband, Otis, Jan Denton and husband, David; sister-in-law, JoAnn Harrod; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
