TEXAS CITY – Mr. Stephen James Getz passed away at the age of 66 on Monday, September 1, 2025, in Texas City.
Born December 17, 1958, in Caribou, Maine, Mr. Getz had been a resident of Texas City since 2014. He proudly served his country in the United States Army before beginning a long career with UPS, where he worked as a manager for 15 years. A man of faith, he was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Connecticut and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 32. Outside of work and service, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures—barbecuing for family and friends and riding his motorcycle on the open road. He will be remembered for his dedication, warmth, and the love he shared with those closest to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marcela (Peltier) Getz; sister, Karen Cyr.
Survivors include his wife of 9 years, Suzanne Curry Getz; sons, Marc Andrew Getz and wife, Kaitlyn of Hartford, Connecticut, Billy Curry of Texas City, Daniel Curry, Jr. of Texas City; daughters, Krystal Scott and husband, Cedric of Brazoria, Jacqueline Marsh of Alabama; brothers, Robert Getz and wife, Margaret of Bristal, Connecticut, Gilbert K. Getz of Lumberton, Texas, Jeffrey Getz and wife, Carla of New Brittain, Connecticut, Peter Getz and wife, Jeannette of Grandy, Connecticut, Richard David Getz and wife, Elizabeth of Avon, Connecticut; grandchildren, Mallary Curry, Jasmin Curry, Chloe Scott, C. J. Scott, Elayna Curry.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Pastor Del Toler officiating.
