RICHMOND - Mr. Steven Michael Russell passed from this life Tuesday afternoon, December 27, 2022, in Richmond.

Steven was born September 22, 1989, in Galveston to Harlan and Lisa Russell. Steven was a bright young child who had a loving personality, respect for others, and a constantly friendly disposition. Intelligent, funny, and playful, Steven loved life. Known for his quirky personality, people were naturally drawn to him. Both his smile and positive energy were contagious. Playing sports became a passion as he reached the third grade. He excelled at basketball and baseball, winning many championships during his sports career in school. As a dedicated team member, he learned the valuable lessons of discipline and focus - attributes he carried with him throughout life. Steven graduated from Santa Fe High School in 2008, attended San Jacinto College, and earned his degree from College of the Mainland. His passion for sports continued as he always rooted for the Dallas Cowboys, and eventually learned to love the Houston Astros. In 2015, he met the love of his life, Katie Cerar. Together they created a loving, fun relationship that would be admired by many. The two were married October 15, 2022 and moved into their first home. Steven had a great work ethic, which made him the perfect fit in the Engineering Department for the City of Pearland. He took great pride in providing for his family. Although his time with us was short, we know that Steven experienced so many great things in his life - love, passion, friendship, and excitement. The memory of our husband, son, family member, and friend will always be with us.

Steven was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harlan R Russell Jr.; grandmothers, Rosemarie P. Russell and Maria D. Foster.

Steven leaves behind his wife, Katie Cerar Russell; parents, Harlan and Lisa Russell; brother, Jacob Russell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marc and Amanda Cerar; sisters-in-law, Allie Cerar, Jennifer Stidhem; brother-in-law, Ryan Cerar; grandfather, Ernest Foster; aunts and uncles, Tina and John Konrad, Kenneth Grove, Sharon and Ismael Zermeno, Terry Foster, Patrick Foster, Kathleen Russell; cousins, Elizabeth Grove, Daniel Singletery Thomas Grove, Javier Tamayo, Dylan Merchant, Isaiah Zermino, Laken Collins, Jack Russell.

Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2023, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, Hitchcock, TX (409) 925-3501, with Reverend Manuel Longoria officiating.
