Thomas Jefferson Dunning, Jr. passed away at the age of 83 on June 14, 2025, in Santa Fe.
Born August 1, 1941 in Newton, TX, Mr. Dunning had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1980. A former member of the Galveston County Dune Buggy Club, Thomas had a deep love for the outdoors that shaped much of his life. Whether cruising the dunes, hunting and fishing, or capturing the beauty of nature through the lens of his camera, he found joy in wild, open spaces.
His passion extended beyond recreation—Thomas was a dedicated supporter of wildlife rehabilitation efforts and a proud advocate for conservation and responsible stewardship of nature. As a Boy Scout in his youth and a longtime member of the NRA, he carried with him a strong sense of responsibility, service, and respect for tradition.
Thomas will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, sharp eye for photography, and unwavering commitment to the values he held dear. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and a life lived close to the land.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jefferson and Ruby Josephine (Davis) Dunning, Sr.; sisters, Barbara Ann Dunning, Deanna Dunning, Bessie Mays; brothers, Bill Dunning and Ray O’Neal.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Kendra Dunning; sons, Jeff Dunning and wife, Carla, Tommy E. Dunning and wife, Courtney, William Dunning; daughters, Julie Soto and Carlos Sauceda, Chalice Causey; brother, Roy Dunning and wife, Nancy; 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Arcadia First Baptist Church, with Pastor Joshua McDonald officiating. www.HayesFuneralHome.com
