Vera Martell Bushouse

     ALVIN- Mrs. Vera Martell Bushouse passed from this life straight into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday June 9th, 2019 in Texas City, Texas at the age of 104. She truly died of Old age.

     Martell was born May 29, 1915 in Grant County, Indiana to parents LaMoine and Laurel (Gardner) Bradford. She met and married the love of her life Everett G. Bushouse in Auburn, Indiana, on May 11, 1935. They lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana moving several times over her life before retiring to Alvin, Texas in the early 1980’s. She had two daughters, Carol Maxine, born in 1936, and Wanda Suzanne born in 1942. She was a long time member of Millwood Methodist Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and a lifelong member of Eastern Star Loyalty Chapter 3497 O.E.S. of Kalamazoo, Michigan and a honorary member of Colorain Chapter #573 O.E.S. of Cincinnati, Ohio. In her later years she joined and was a dedicated member of Alvin First United Methodist Church. Martell was an active member of Wesleyans, a charter member of Women’s Society (now U.M.W.), and of the Women’s Bible Class. She was a longtime volunteer at the Alvin Clothing Outlet and made many visits to local nursing homes.

     She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Everett Bushouse, and both daughters, Carol Maxine Guidry and Wanda Suzanne Braucksick.

     She is survived by her longtime friend and caretaker, Kathy McCravy of Alvin, Texas and cousins, Bill and Joyce Blosser of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Jay and Jan Westorp of Lakeland, Florida.

     Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12th 2019, in the Chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, 10412 Highway 6, (409) 925-3501, with Reverend Linda Snow officiating.

     Martell’s family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Elmcroft Senior Living in Texas City for their compassionate care. And lastly, Martell’s close friends that could always be counted on to visit and offer help when needed. She loved each and every one of you.

     Memorials in the form of donations can be made to Alvin First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund and to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
